Week #13

Thank you for taking the time to read the blogs each week.  It will help you know what is happening in school.

REMINDERS:

Monday: Adventure logs are due.  

Tuesday: Library.  Please return library books!

** Continue to bring in Large Pringles cans, please.

FOOD DRIVE- The Annual food drive will continue until December 13.  Please continue to bring in any donations on non-perishable food items. 

On Friday we will be doing a fun Nutcracker art activity with the other grade 3 classes.  Please be on time!!  The activity will take place in the morning.  Nutcrackers made from Pringles cans




Math: We have been working on 2-digit addition (with and without regrouping).

Also completed another word problem.







Language: Writing Friendly letters.

Science:  Grade 2s- Finishing Solids and Liquids (quiz next week)
                Grade 3s- Finishing forces (quiz next week)

This week we conducted a variety of experiments:

Grade 2s:

1) Looked at Solids and Liquids if identified if they took up space
2) Made Hot Chocolate- Changing a solid (hot chocolate powder) into a liquid (hot chocolate drink) when adding heat (hot water) (CHANGE OF STATE)
3) Made Ice Cream- Changing a liquid (whipping cream) into a solid (ice cream) when cold is applied. (CHANGE OF STATE)











Grade 3s:

1) Looked at static electricity- rubbing different materials together (nylon and balloons; nylon and plastic comb; and nylon and styrofoam cups) and seeing how much (if any) tissue paper can be picked up.  If an item is charged (positive), it can pick up an item that is negatively charged (tissue paper).

2) Students started their experiment on friction.  We will find some time to complete next week.

Drama: Continued working on our reader's theatre scripts.

Art: We made paper cranes.  
We just completed our class novel "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes".  Students were eager to make a paper crane. I invited Ms. Kim (Korean teacher who has been visiting our school since September) to show us how to fold paper cranes (origami).  










Gym: Relay races!!
