Wow!  What a week!!   It was full of fun activities and finishing up work before the holidays!!

I wish all of my students and their families a wonderful and safe holiday!  I will see you all in 2019!!!

Over the holidays please continue to read, work on your literacy at home duotang, and practice addition and subtraction!  We will be wrapping up subtraction the first week back in January and moving on to geometry. Continue to do adventures over the break (don't just play video games and sit on the couch!  Get out and enjoy time with family and friends!!! ;) )


What did we do this week?

Language: We continued to work on our unit on The Nutcracker.  Students completed their letters to a Nutcracker character.

Drama: Worked on our Reader's Theatre.  Unfortunately, due to absences, only 1 group was able to present.  The second group will present their fairy tale when we return in January (Goldilocks and the Three Bears).

Social Studies: Students are working on completing their units.  Grade 2s are comparing 2 celebrations of their choice. Grade 3s are comparing 2 aspects of life as a pioneer versus today.  We will complete these projects the first week back in January.  

Grade 3 students went to MacSkimming Pioneer Village.  Please see photo section for photos.  Unfortunately, my class was split up, therefore, I am missing photos of some students in our class.

Celebrations this week:

We had our schoolwide spirit week this week!  Lots of fun every day!!!

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday all Primary students took part in our annual Festival of Lights.  Students learned about different celebrations and completed activities are each station. 

Friday morning we had our annual Holiday Primary Sing-along.  We sang both English and French carols. Teachers even did a special rendition of The Twelves Days of Christmas





Friday afternoon- we had the opportunity to start watching the Nutcracker Ballet.  Unfortunately, due to time, we were not able to complete the movie.  Below is the Youtube link to the movie if you would like to watch it at home. The Nutcracker Ballet (1993)

Monday: Adventure Logs and milk orders due

*** Tuesday: Grade 3 field trip to MacSkimming to learn about Pioneers. PLEASE DRESS FOR THE WEATHER AND ARRIVE ON TIME FOR SCHOOL!!

Grade 2s will spend the day with Mr. Leroux's Grade 2 class.  (Same class they have gym with on Friday's and our next door portable neighbours!!)


School Spirit Week:


Monday December 17-  Crazy Sock Day.


Tuesday December 18- Twin (or more) Day - pick a friend(s) and wear matching clothes.

Wednesday December 19- Heritage Day - wear colours or something that represents your culture and background.

Thursday December 20- Ugly Holiday Sweater Day (or wear holiday colours).

Friday December 21- Pajama Day.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12-1 all primary classes (grades 1-3) will be having our annual Festival of Lights!!! We will be learning about different holidays and traditions.

This week we had our Character assembly. The following students received certificates for KINDNESS: Haruun, Houssien, Samantha, and Keira!  Great job guys!  Continue to show KINDNESS inside and outside of the classroom!!

Jumana and some of the other Kindness Calendar winners. Their poster art will be featured in our 2019 Kindness Calendar. 


Math: We have been working on subtraction (with and without regrouping). Students have been working on 2 digit subtraction and 3 digit subtraction.   Please continue to work on subtraction at home this week and over the holidays.  




Language: We continue to explore the text The Nutcracker.  We read various versions of the story. We examined the characters and their traits. we reviewed parts of a friendly letter as well.  Students have started and will continue to work on writing a friendly letter to a character in The Nutcracker.

Social Studies:  Grade 2s continue to examine various celebrations.  This week they focused on Hanukka and Christmas.  

Grade 3s continued to examine pioneers.  We have been looking at pioneer life (homes, who immigrated to Upper Canada, etc...). 

Drama: We started new Reader's Theatre Scripts this week.  Students will present their stories next week.  Please check your child's homework bag and have them practice their scripts.  They will receive an oral and drama mark. Looking at tone, voice, intonation, eye contact, changing voice based on character, etc...

Art: We made silly Reindeer. I love how unique everyone's reindeer are.  We continue to get compliments about our snowmen we made last week!







Health: We are continuing to examine the concept of Safety.  This week we came up with a list of ways to be safe at home. In groups, students brainstormed and presented rules (Do's and Don't) about safety at home.
