week #16

Image result for happy holidays

Wow!  What a week!!   It was full of fun activities and finishing up work before the holidays!!

I wish all of my students and their families a wonderful and safe holiday!  I will see you all in 2019!!!

Over the holidays please continue to read, work on your literacy at home duotang, and practice addition and subtraction!  We will be wrapping up subtraction the first week back in January and moving on to geometry. Continue to do adventures over the break (don't just play video games and sit on the couch!  Get out and enjoy time with family and friends!!! ;) )

What did we do this week?

Language: We continued to work on our unit on The Nutcracker.  Students completed their letters to a Nutcracker character.

Drama: Worked on our Reader's Theatre.  Unfortunately, due to absences, only 1 group was able to present.  The second group will present their fairy tale when we return in January (Goldilocks and the Three Bears).

The Three Little Pigs
Starring: Ali, Tasmir, Jumana, Zofia, Keira, Logan, Haruun, and Samantha.

Social Studies: Students are working on completing their units.  Grade 2s are comparing 2 celebrations of their choice. Grade 3s are comparing 2 aspects of life as a pioneer versus today.  We will complete these projects the first week back in January.

Grade 3 students went to MacSkimming Pioneer Village.  Please see photo section for photos.  Unfortunately, my class was split up, therefore, I am missing photos of some students in our class.

Celebrations this week:

We had our schoolwide spirit week this week!  Lots of fun every day!!!

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday all Primary students took part in our annual Festival of Lights.  Students learned about different celebrations and completed activities are each station.

Friday morning we had our annual Holiday Primary Sing-along.  We sang both English and French carols. Teachers even did a special rendition of The Twelves Days of Christmas

Friday afternoon- we had the opportunity to start watching the Nutcracker Ballet.  Unfortunately, due to time, we were not able to complete the movie.  Below is the Youtube link to the movie if you would like to watch it at home. The Nutcracker Ballet (1993)

I've also included a cartoon version called The Nutcracker Prince (1990)
