Week #5

We had a short, but busy week!

Reminders:

NO SCHOOL on Friday Oct 5 and on Monday Oct 8.

We have library on Tuesday.  Please ensure students bring back their library books.

Math:  We started out patterning unit.  Please have your child look around their environment for patterns and have them explain what the pattern is.  Also ask about attributes that are changing (size, colour, orientation, shape, numbers, growing, shrinking, objects, etc...)

Gym:  We continue to play co-operative games.

Social Studies:  We have been discussing Thanksgiving as a class.  Grade 2s are studying Celebrations and Traditions. Thanksgiving also ties in with the Grade 3 social studies curriculum (early settlers and first nations).  Grade 3s started to discuss which countries did the early settlers come from (Netherlands, Germany, France, England, Scotland, Ireland) and why. As well as Upper and Lower Canada.

Language: We had our Timeline presentations.  We enjoyed seeing and hearing about our class and their own personal history and important details of their lives.  The students were very interested and eager to share!

We have started to work on our Personal Narrative "Ouch" Stories.   Students have brainstormed and shared ideas as a group and are now writing their stories. We are working on their going step-by-step and trying to ensure we focus on the "small moment"  or the watermelon seed in our writing.

Art: We have been making Cornucopia placemats.  Cornucopias or "horn of plenty" were used in the past to mark a bountiful harvest and thanksgiving.  They are now used today as a symbolic table centerpiece.
