Later in the afternoon Mrs. Tsiolas invited us to join her grade 3 class for a presentation about The Nutcracker. We will be doing an integrated unit with her class over the next few weeks. Mrs. Tsiolas's daughter Eleni is a Grade 9 student. She happened to come to our school for Take our kids to work day. Eleni is a trained dancer. She showed us some wonderful ballet moves. Math:
We have been wrapping up our unit on place value for Number Sense and Numeration. Students were given a test today (Friday). Those who were not at school due to the weather will complete the test on Monday.
On Monday we will start exploring addition and subtraction (Number sense and numeration strand).
A wonderful website with online math manipulatives, such as base ten blocks is http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/vlibrary.html (you will need JAVA to use this site)
Please play around with this site. Lots of fun manipulatives. There is a section under both grades for addition and subtraction with the base ten blocks.
- Select Number and operations under your child's grade
- Select either Base ten block addition or Base ten block
