Greetings families!!

What a gorgeous week we had weather wise!!

I really enjoyed meeting my students families on Tuesday evening at Meet the Teacher.  I hope you enjoyed visiting our classroom!

Reminders:

Monday: Adventure Logs due

Tuesday: Library- Please return library books

** Please note, I will be away today due to an appoitment.  I will be back on Wednesday.

Thursday: Terry Fox Run (rain or shine--- please dress for the weather)
Terry Fox donations due.

What did we do this week:

Today we attended the Terry Fox Run kickoff assembly.  OnThursday Sept 26 (rain or shine) all students will be participating in our annual run.  Classes were asked to establish a fundraising goal and a reward (if goal is met).  Our class decided on trying to raise $50.  If successful, we will earn a movie.  Students are asked to bring in any donations by Thursday.

Congratulations Grade 3s, we filled up our marble jar!!  We earned a class prize and the prize chosen by the class was a Pajama Day!  Keep it up Grade 3s!

Language:  We continued to work on our personal narratives. If you want to practice at home, have students pick a topic like recess, favourite trip, favourite holiday, etc...  have them brainstorm what happened.  Then pick one of the ideas and focus on it.  Describe what happened, how did they feel, who was there, etc... Students are encouraged to use transition words such as first, next, lastly.... to describe the sequence of events.

We also did some working with words work by playing Boggle!!   How many words can you make?

We also started to look at making connections with the texts we read.  We read Howard B Wigglebottom Learns About Bullies and looked for connections.

Math:  We continue to work on data management (graphing).  I hope to wrap up the math unit next week and move onto patterning.

Want more practice, visit this link for some math exercises on data management and review terms and the important information that needs to be displayed on a graph.

Science: We are still working on our Forces unit.  We started to discuss the different types of forces that use pushes and pulls.  We will be examining these forces a little more closely in the upcoming weeks.

- gravitational force
- electrostatic force
- magnetic force
- muscular force
- buoyancy
- friction
- natural force (i.e. tornados)

Health: We started our unit on healthy eating.

Having a turn and talk discussion about what healthy means

Art: We discussed warm and cool colours this week.  Students were asked to colour a fall leaf design using warm colours for the leaves and cool colours for the ourside.  Next week I hope to start some drama activities.
